University students from the Church of God stepped forward to clean up the Hennops River in Gauteng Province. About 100 people, including ASEZ members, participated and collected about 5,000kg of trash.
The Hennops River is becoming a ‘river of disease and death,’ threatening not only the aquatic ecosystem but also human health. Pollution levels were always high due to the inflow of agricultural and domestic water, but recent flooding has caused various trash and waste to flow into the river, causing green algae. On the 9th, about 100 people, including members of the international volunteer organization ASEZ, seniors and juniors, and their families, participated in the ‘Plastic Pollution Beach and River Cleanup Activity Around the World’ to clean up the area and protect the ecosystem and were welcomed by the local community. This activity is part of the ‘Zero Plastic 2040’ campaign that ASEZ is carrying out to solve the global issue of plastic.
ASEZ is a university student volunteer group of the World Mission Society Church of God (Chairman Pastor Kim Joo-cheol, hereinafter referred to as the Church of God). The group name contains the meaning of ‘Save the Earth from A to Z.’ University student members from around the world are carrying out various volunteer activities such as climate change response activities, crime prevention activities, and disaster relief activities for the happiness of humanity.
