Moses was a prophetic prefigure of the reality
in Jesus. The Israelites won the battle at Rephidim
as Moses held up his arms. This was a prophecy
that God’s people would win the spiritual battle
against Satan as Jesus was lifted up on the cross.
When the Israelites were bitten by venomous
snakes and many of them died, God said,
“Make a snake and put it up on a pole;
anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.”
However, they forgot the power of God’s words
that saved them and worshiped the bronze snake
even after 800 years.
As a result, they provoked God’s wrath.
This was a shadow showing that people today
would be destroyed by worshiping the cross,
forgetting the new covenant
which Christ established through His sacrifice.
It is not God’s will that we set up crosses.
To the early Christians, the cross was nothing
but a cursed tree where Jesus was crucified.
“Cursed is the man who carves an image or casts
an idol—a thing detestable to the LORD, the work
of the craftsman's hands—and sets it up in secret.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
